CHER

ACTIVATION / PERFORMANCE

MARDI GRAS 40TH ANNIVERSARY 2018

Cher is an American singer and actress, commonly referred to by the media as the Goddess of Pop. She is one of the best selling music artists of all time having sold over 100 million records. Cher is an Oscar winner, a Grammy Hall of Fame inductee and has had a six decade-long career.

We were thrilled to act as Producer, Director and Creative Director for the performance and activation for Cher for the 40th Anniversary Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2018.

In a performance performed live in front of 500,000 people and televised live on SBS Australia.

We created a story for the piece that started with her iconic video for “Turn back Time” where we had five of Australia’s leading drag queens dressed as Cher in bespoke costumes replicating this fabulous look, mime to the Number one song along with 50 dancing Sailors in a choreographed slick marching routine.

The music changes and reveals three more drag queens dressed in Cher’s famous Tinsel look to “Strong Enough” and have a Cher battle – it then moves into the final moment of the show “Believe” including an additional 80 performers from Qantas, four muscle men each with a giant letter each C,H,E,R, and we introduce the Goddess herself for the final moment of the show.

We worked on the audio with Engineer Edward Said at Kings X Music on the original soundtrack to create a seamless show with Voice Overs.

WSE Director Wil Sabin along with Matthew Gode did the choreography for the performance.

A total of over 150 performers in the middle of Taylor Square for this iconic moment was something we will not forget and an absolute career highlight.
